What each release means

CPIHigh

The main US inflation reading, released monthly — how much a basket of goods and services costs versus a year (or month) earlier.

Impact: a hotter print raises the odds the Fed holds rates higher for longer, pressuring risk assets including crypto; a cooler print does the opposite. The surprise versus consensus usually matters more than the raw number.

FOMC Rate DecisionHigh

The Fed's rate-setting committee meets roughly every six weeks and announces whether it's raising, cutting, or holding the benchmark rate, followed by a press conference.

Impact: rate policy sets the cost of borrowing and the return on cash and bonds. Lower rates generally favor riskier assets; the press-conference tone often moves markets more than the decision itself.

NFP — Non-Farm PayrollsHigh

The US jobs report, out the first Friday of most months: jobs added/lost outside farming, plus unemployment rate and wage growth.

Impact: a strong labor market gives the Fed more room to keep rates elevated; a weak report raises rate-cut bets. One of the most volatile releases of the month.

PCE Price IndexHigh

The Fed's preferred inflation gauge, similar to CPI but weighted differently for how spending shifts as prices change.

Impact: because policymakers reference PCE directly, a surprise here can shift rate expectations even more directly than a CPI surprise.

PPIMedium

Wholesale-level inflation — what producers receive for goods and services — usually released a day or two from CPI.

Impact: rising producer costs often pass to consumers later, so PPI can hint at where CPI is headed. Moves markets less than CPI or NFP unless it diverges sharply.

Initial Jobless ClaimsMedium

A weekly count of new US unemployment-benefit applications, released every Thursday.

Impact: the most frequent labor-market read available — a sudden spike can flag economic weakness well before the monthly jobs report confirms it.

ISM Manufacturing / Services PMIMedium

A monthly survey of purchasing managers; above 50 signals expansion, below 50 signals contraction.

Impact: one of the earliest signals on economic momentum each month, ahead of slower official growth data.

GDPMedium

The broadest measure of economic output, released quarterly with an initial estimate and later revisions.

Impact: a lagging confirmation of trends other data already hinted at — usually moves markets less than CPI or NFP, except on a sharp growth surprise.
